Plagiarism and Retraction Policy
Jurnal Antropologi: Isu-Isu Sosial Budaya upholds the highest standards of academic integrity and publication ethics. Plagiarism in any form is considered a serious violation of scholarly conduct, and the editorial board is committed to identifying, preventing, and responding to any instances of plagiarism or unethical reuse of published material. This policy outlines the journal’s procedures for handling plagiarism and retraction in line with international best practices and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines.
Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism is defined as the presentation of another person's work, ideas, data, or expressions—either verbatim or slightly modified—without appropriate acknowledgment, presenting them as one’s own original contribution. This includes, but is not limited to:
-
Copying text, figures, or tables from previously published work without citation
-
Paraphrasing substantial portions of another author’s content without attribution
-
Self-plagiarism or duplicate publication without proper disclosure
Policy on Manuscript Originality
All submissions to Jurnal Antropologi: Isu-Isu Sosial Budaya must be:
-
Original and unpublished
-
Not under review or consideration by any other journal
-
Properly cited and referenced when incorporating prior work
-
Submitted with clear identification and permission for any reused material
Verbatim text exceeding fair use (typically more than 2–3 sentences) and any reuse of graphics, tables, or data must be accompanied by appropriate citation and permissions from the copyright holder.
Levels of Plagiarism and Editorial Actions
The journal categorizes plagiarism into three levels, each with corresponding editorial action:
| Level | Description | Action Taken |
|---|---|---|
| Minor | Limited copying (e.g., short sentences or standard phrases) without proper citation | Authors receive a warning and are requested to revise with proper citations |
| Moderate | A significant portion of text is copied without referencing the original source | Manuscript is rejected; authors banned from submission for 1 year |
| Severe | Reproduction of substantial content, including original data, ideas, or results from other sources | Manuscript is rejected; authors banned from submission for 5 years |
In cases of repeated offenses, the editorial board may impose a permanent ban on all future submissions from the offending author(s).
Responsibilities of Authors
-
All authors listed on a manuscript share equal responsibility for its content.
-
Authors must ensure proper citation of previously published work, including their own.
-
Reuse of previously published materials (e.g., figures, datasets, paragraphs) must be clearly identified, appropriately cited, and, when necessary, approved by the copyright holder.
-
In the case of resubmissions from conference proceedings or other publications, full disclosure is required, including publication details and permission.
Self-Plagiarism and Redundant Publication
-
Minor self-plagiarism (e.g., overlap in the methods section) will be treated as a low-level offense.
-
Moderate to significant overlap (10–50%) without disclosure will be considered intermediate plagiarism.
-
Redundant publication of more than 50% of content will be considered severe and may result in retraction and author sanction.
Authors must disclose if content has been published previously in another language or format and provide accurate bibliographic details. Translated or republished articles must include permission and clear identification of the original work.
Retraction Policy
Published articles may be retracted if:
-
There is evidence of data fabrication, falsification, or significant error
-
The article constitutes plagiarism or redundant publication
-
Ethical violations are identified, including lack of informed consent or research misconduct
-
The findings are proven to be unreliable due to methodological or interpretive errors
