Allegations of Misconduct
Purpose and Commitment
Jurnal Antropologi: Isu-Isu Sosial Budaya is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics. This policy ensures a swift, fair, and effective response to allegations of misconduct, in alignment with the guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Scope of Misconduct
Misconduct under this policy includes, but is not limited to:
- Plagiarism: Using another's work without appropriate attribution.
- Data Fabrication or Falsification: Creating or manipulating data to misrepresent research findings.
- Citation Manipulation: Adding irrelevant citations to artificially enhance citation metrics.
- Redundant or Duplicate Publication: Publishing the same work in multiple outlets without clear disclosure.
- Unethical Research Practices: Violations of research ethics or guidelines.
- Authorship Disputes: Inappropriate authorship attribution, including guest or gift authorship.
- Other Actions: Any behavior compromising the ethical or scientific quality of the research.
Process for Addressing Allegations
- Initial Receipt and Acknowledgment
- Allegations may be reported by authors, reviewers, editors, or external whistleblowers.
- Upon receiving an allegation, the journal will acknowledge the complainant within five business days.
- The confidentiality of both the complainant and the accused will be safeguarded to the fullest extent possible.
- Preliminary Assessment
- The Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the editorial team, will:
- Review the nature of the allegation.
- Gather preliminary evidence to determine whether a formal investigation is warranted.
- Formal Investigation
- If a formal investigation is required:
- An impartial committee composed of editorial board members will be formed.
- The accused will be informed of the allegations and provided an opportunity to respond.
- All relevant evidence, including peer reviews, data, and communications, will be thoroughly evaluated.
- Resolution
- Outcomes of the investigation may include:
- For Minor Infractions: Requesting corrections or clarifications, with the manuscript still under consideration.
- For Major Misconduct: Rejecting the manuscript, retracting a published article, or reporting the case to the author's institution or funding body as necessary.
- Post-Investigation Actions
- The journal will issue retractions, corrections, or expressions of concern as appropriate.
- If deemed necessary, findings may be shared publicly in accordance with COPE guidelines.
Protection for Whistleblowers
The journal guarantees protection for whistleblowers acting in good faith. Their anonymity will be preserved unless disclosure is legally required.
Education and Prevention
The journal is committed to promoting ethical research practices by:
- Providing clear author guidelines on ethical publication standards.
- Training editorial board members and reviewers on COPE practices.
- Utilizing plagiarism detection tools as part of the review process.
Review and Updates
