This study aims to analyze the interaction between ethnic groups and changes in the family structure of the Minangkabau, Javanese, and local ethnic groups in Bengkulu City. This research uses a qualitative approach with an analytical descriptive method. The results of the study explain that: First, the interaction pattern carried out by each ethnic Javanese, Minang and local ethnic is an associative interaction, where the interaction that arises is the self-awareness of each ethnicity of the importance of the meaning of life interacting without having to contradict even though different ethnicity or ethnicity they come from. In fact, in the local people's life, even though they live side by side with multi-ethnic groups, there has never been friction or inter-ethnic conflict. Second, in the Minang ethnic there is a trend to change the kinship system from matrilineal to bilateral kinship system, as result there is also a shift in the role of the powerful and responsible from uncle to father who is in charge and responsible for the family. Thirdly, in Javanese, no fundamental change finding, but the change lies only in the calling of everyone in the family.

One of the current environmental problems is plastic waste. One of the efforts to manage plastic waste in the community is through waste bank activities. This paper tries to explain the participation of farmers in the Pancadaya waste bank community in the suburbs area of Padang City, from a Giddens perspective. The research was conducted qualitatively by observation and interviews with several informants who were obtained purposively. The results of the research show that from the external dimension, several things are constraining and enabling the practice of participation by farmers, such as the distance factor and the existence of incentives.Meanwhile, from the internal dimension of farmers as subjects, participation as a social practice is largely due to unconscious motivation and practical consciousness. Only a small number of them participate in plastic waste management in waste banks based on discursive consciousness. Collaboration between waste banks and farmers as one element of customers and other parties is needed so that their participation practices are more driven by discursive consciousness

Riau Islands as one of the tourism destinations in Indonesia that has unique tourist uniqueness. The uniqueness and potential of tourism in the Riau Islands is developed as one of the tourism destinations based on culture and supported by the beauty of nature is very interesting. The emergence of maritime tourism as the most popular place impacts the tourism in the Riau Islands region. Many changes occur due to the development of tourism. However, the most attention is the high level of tourism accommodation development with a very limited amount of land. The limitation does not necessarily stop development and even leads to a higher level of functional alteration that threatens the existence of green open spaces that also impact to other areas as happened in Teluk Village Mangrove, Gunung Kijang District. Beside that, the lack of human resources, especially in Teluk Bakau Village, Gunung Kijang Sub-district, is still not able to compete in tourism sector either in local, national or international scale. If this is left is not impossible that tourism was originally expected to be able to improve the welfare of society it will threaten the welfare of the community itself. Intangible is seen there is a movement of people who are now tend to orient towards profit financially or profit oriented. Because, tourism industry is seen as a profitable activity and able to bring in great revenue.namun, reality in the field shows that the development of Tourism Village has not been side with the community of Teluk Bakau Village. As the development of coastal tourism is a tourism asset sold for tourist satisfaction. However, the development of tourist villages is not aligned with people's lives. The socio-economic life of the Bakau Bay community is unchanged while investors reap huge profits from this tourism activity. In fact, if there is no coastal tourism industry tourism in Teluk Bakau Village will not grow

The purpose of this paper is show that the commodification process that occurs in the Sijunjung Traditional Village to support the development of rural tourism. The process of commodification can be seen in the utilization of the Rumah Gadang as a place to stay (homestay) for visitors. Rumah Gadang for the Minangkabau people is not just a place to live but a cultural space and symbol. So that if it is made into a homestay it will create a dilemma, on the one hand, the Rumah Gadang needs to be maintained as a distinctive Minangkabau cultural monument and on the other hand, the tourism aspect can have an economic impact on the Sijunjung community. It is this dualism of Rumah Gadang as a cultural product and a tourism product that results in commodification to develop tourism in rural areas. The method used is a thorough observation of the Rumah Gadang and interviewing the residents and Ninik Mamak (traditional ruler) as members of the tribe that owns the Rumah gadang. A total of 15 Rumah Gadang have become homestays under the auspices of BCA bank CSR and are managed by the Nagari Sijunjung Traditional Village Management Agency (BP). Apart from that, Rumah Gadang still functions as a place and space for the social and cultural activities of the Sijunjung people. So that the values and norms that exist in the Rumah Gadang as a symbol of Minangkabau culture continue to run and through homestays, the Sijunjung community can get additional economic benefits from the tourism sector.

The similarity of identity such as religion and ethnicity as a primordial aspect becomes a preference in choosing a leader not based on their capability. In the election of the Governor of North Sumatra in 2018, identity politics tended to strengthen in Muslim voters, especially in terms of religion, indigenous issues and natives. This practics of identity politics resulted in a victory for the couple Edy Rahmayadi-Musa Rajeckshah (Islam-Islam). The main question in this study is why identity politics is still relevant to be used by Muslim voters in the Election of Governor of North Sumatra in 2018. The study was conducted with a qualitative descriptive method, in which all data were collected through library studies and internet searching. This study concludes that Muslim voters see identity politics still relevant to use in choosing leaders because they consider Muslims have to be led by leaders who care about Islam. This understanding emerged from previous experiences in DKI Jakarta, namely the Al Maidah 51 incident by Ahok and discriminatory practices against Muslims when led by the non-Muslims and the Muslims who did not care about Islam in various regions in Indonesia

Aside from its cultural and religious aspects, this province is also prone to disasters. These disasters are directly impacted on Minangkabau people’s livelihood, especially women. In Minangkabau society, women have a crucial role because they are the leader of Rumah Gadang (big house owned by community). This situation puts women as the problem – solver in any occasion, especially when it comes to disaster issues. The aim of this study is to understand the resilience of Minangkabau's women, which focused on their coping strategies at pre, during and post disaster, and how the local knowledge will be applied in this condition.

The decreased number of traditional earthenware craftsmen occurs due to three main factors: basic material, worker, and consumer. Some craftsmen instead prefer staying so that they should adapt to the existing condition. Nevertheless, in fact, some of them prefer stopping from being craftsmen now. Departing from this reality, the author tried to raise earthenware craftsmen’s adapting strategy to survive until today. The author employed a qualitative method. The phenomenological research was chosen with interview and observation being the techniques of collecting data. The result of research generally showed a variety of products produced aiming to document cultural heritage threatened to be extinct. Meanwhile, as the analysis technique, the author borrowed Julian Steward’s cultural-ecological perspective to explain the data found. Data analysis was conducted using an interactive technique of analysis. Considering the findings of the research, the craftsmen took a different surviving strategy today compared with that in the past. This change was effected by such constraints as basic material, consumer, and human resources. Julian Steward’s cultural-ecological concept seemed to be insufficient. Therefore, natural resources as the main basic material of industrial society should be understood more complexly to a more macro level.

The debate on the involvement of youth in music is not a new topic in the discourses on youth and life styles. The article discusses a research work on a group of Malay urban youth in Malaysia who were involved in underground rock music and the activities associated with it. The qualitative research based especially on a collection of primary data analyzes the elements of the underground rock music and the dynamics of its particular subculture. It touches both the ideological and behavioral aspects related to the youth’s involvement in underground rock music. The findings show that a group of Malay urban youth favors this type of music not only as a source of entertainment, but also underground rock music provides them with a channel to express their specific feelings, sentiments, and opinions associated with their specific life experiences, both as individuals and as a group within the society. Their involvement is very much related to factors such as the particular characteristic features of the music and the social elements or issues touched upon such as subjects on social consciousness, generational identity, individual’s creativity, social status, choice and freedom. For many youth, these elements have significant meanings for their daily living experiences and lifestyles and they provide them with a strategy needed to position themselves in a certain niche for survival as a group in the changing society like Malaysia.

The backgrounds of this research are (1) the reality of lung tuberculosis case in Indonesia has never been overcome since colonial governance era until now, and (2) biomedical experts often disregard the results of medical anthropology research by the social and culture approach on lung tuberculosis. Thus, I try to get out of medical anthropological research themes (medical ecology, political economic, and ritual) as usual, and offer “power” is a new theme in medical anthropological research on lung tuberculosis. The research findings are; (1) Cinangka Serang Banten societi’s knowledge on lung tuberculosis is constructed by staff of public health center (puskesmas), personalistic and naturalistic healers, (2) the social process as power implementation can stimulate, push, or even facilitate the biological process of lung tuberculosis, (3) the used of power issue in medical anthropology perspective for understanding disease is significant as one of medical anthropology theme on lung tuberculosis. These research findings effects are; (1) stimulates the dynamics of theory and method in medical anthropology; (1) reconstruct the way of thought in study of disease; (3) gives conceptual contribution in tackling and prevention of lung tuberculosis disease.

This study aims to explain the factors behind the rise of early marriages in Bondowoso Regency which can be at risk of causing stunting; study the knowledge possessed by women in early marriage, reproductive health, and child-rearing; as well as conduct studies on stakeholder wars in alleviating early marriage as well as stunting. This study uses qualitative research methods with data collection techniques using in-depth interviews. The research location is in Pujer District, Bondowoso Regency. Determination of informants using purposive sampling consisted of several mothers who had stunted toddlers, village heads, clerics, to the head of the KUA Pujer District. The results of the study show that early marriage is still a risk factor that causes stunting in children. The dispensation of marriage, liking each other, arranged marriages, and avoiding adultery are the reasons why there are still early marriages here. Other factors that cause stunting apart from early marriage are knowledge, upbringing, socioeconomic conditions, and sanitation which factors that indicate stunting in Bondowoso Regency. The role of stakeholders in internalizing the community through an approach that is following their cultural characteristics plays a very important role in reducing the number of early marriages as well as stunting. However, if it is not accompanied by the efforts of the main actors to understand the impact of this early marriage, it can be indicated that stunting will still exist in Bondowoso Regency.

The purpose of this article is to look at the stages in the formation of identity politics in restoring the glory of Malay culture in Riau province. This research is descriptive-explorative library research that explains and explores ideas about Riau Malay identity politics by answering questions in problems identified based on reading results and data interpretation related to the research theme. The results showed that after the reforms, the political elite of the Riau Province government tried to strengthen Malay identity with a variety of policies that were disseminated. Then, the negative views that were often directed towards ethnic Malay in the past, were rectified again by giving Islamic values to all the lives of the Malay people. Furthermore, the Local Government and the Riau Malay Customary Institution try to re-socialize the importance of the use of Malay as the origin of Indonesian.

Senjang is a Malay musical art found in the provinces of South Sumatra and Jambi. In South Sumatra, the existence of senjang is well maintained. This condition is achieved by combining senjang with modern musical instruments. Whereas in Jambi, senjang has been in decline since the 1990s. The artists have made various conservation efforts to no avail, and senjang in Jambi remains under threat of extinction to this day. Through a qualitative methods this study found that the decline of senjang in Jambi was caused by changes in people's livelihoods that changed the pattern of work organization in agriculture; changes in interest in music; and changes in social customs. The artists have made conservation efforts for the last twenty years, but to no avail due to obstacles arising from differences in interests with the local government. On the one hand, the artists want to add elements of dance, change musical instruments and songs to keep up with changes in people's musical interests, but the local government wants the use of musical instruments and traditional songs to be maintained in order to build regional cultural identity.

Indonesia is predicted to enter the era of bonus demography which is an interesting issue now. This is related to the increasing productive and non-productive population. This phenomenon can benefit the population, both productive and non-productive residents who get less attention, especially economic dependence on nonproductive groups such as the elderly. Elderly are often said to be a burden on society, especially for women who are often associated with domestic work. This study raises the economic independence of elderly women. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach on elderly women in Demuk village, Pucanglaban sub-district, Tulungagung district. Data collection uses participatory observation techniques and in-depth interviews. The results of the study show that elderly women can meet the economic needs of their own family or household. They work in the domestic and public domains such as farmers, laborers, traders, and breeders. Thus elderly women are not burdens, but they become economic support for the family or household.

The pattern of seeking healing and the use of family medicinal plants today has become an inseparable part of people's lives. In social life, illness becomes a discourse on the interaction of human life with nature. The disease suffered by the community is not only a challenge in itself, but they have the knowledge of healing, so that the illness can be handled independently or through the role of assistants in traditional ways. This study seeks to document the various knowledges of the community in the use of plants that can cure disease and also to map the pattern of seeking healing that is believed by the people of Aceh. Through an ethnographic qualitative approach, this research uses interviews and direct observation in two areas in Aceh. The results of the study show that the Acehnese living in the two areas have their own knowledge to obtain a cure for their illness. The knowledge was collected based on the response to illness through the role of traditional healers and the transmission pattern of treatment knowledge from generation to generation to medicinal plants, so that in obtaining healing, they were able to survive with the conditions they experienced until they obtained complete healing.

Working is one of the hopes as well as an achievement for the transitional period of youth. The social, cultural, and economic contexts that are developing rapidly due to globalization and advances in science and technology have made the sphere of work also change. As a result, the outsourcing work system has become the right choice for young people to develop their careers. Using qualitative research methods with a biographical model, several young informants were selected to tell narratives related to their dynamic careers in several industries with an outsourcing system. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and observations on the activities carried out by these young workers—besides, some secondary data related to the world of work as the primary data support. From the results obtained, youth who work in the industrial sector with an outsourcing mechanism have quite a risk of being vulnerable in the future even though the transition period they are experiencing looks relatively smooth (after taking education directly to work). Their joy in their daily lives as young people seems to be able to encourage them to keep their enthusiasm for work even though the risks that exist in the future are uncertain and winding.

Food is a critical aspect of community resilience. The Covid-19 pandemic, however, has affected the natural environment, making food supply scarce and ultimately impacting economic and national stability. Despite this, the Mowewe community shares a local culture by which its people get empowered to maintain food security. Therefore, this study aims to discover and describe the local community's culture in Mowewe District in establishing a food security system. The method used was ethnography with a qualitative approach. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, after which the data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive techniques. The findings revealed that the local culture of the Mowewe community was built upon the concept of Mekambare, principles of gotong royong (cooperation), and ecological adaptation. The Mowewe community was of deep concern for the pattern of life balance during the pandemic. They took advantage of natural resources by clearing agricultural land to grow rice, corn, patchouli, and sago and keeping bees in the forest to produce honey for an additional source of income and immunity

This article discusses the village forest in Simanau. This research was conducted by using a qualitative method, one of which is a case study. Data collection was carried out by observation, interviews and literature study. Research departs from solutions to the problem of deforestation and forest degradation as business as usual or with international assistance through the village forest scheme. Village forests are one of Nawacita's priority programs as a strategic step in reducing deforestation and forest degradation and also overcoming poverty and poverty in national land tenure. My intension is to analyze the forest from a critical anthropological perspective, one of which is the political ecology framework to explore the village forest in Simanau. For this reason, I use the concepts of "access" and "exclusion" in sharpening economic goals in ecological terms. The research findings show that Simanau forest reform raises a dilemma where access to forests is limited for non-management communities. The concept of access is used to hide who gets (and doesn't get) the benefits of the existence of the village forest and through what they get it. This concept of access is then related to the concept of exclusion which means preventing people from accessing forests.

Socio-cultural changes in the world of social media always occur because of the support of sophisticated technology that occurs to this day. One of them is the use of Instagram for millennials, including in Padang. This research is to find out how social change is and the impact that occurs on students in Padang in using Instagram. This research was conducted in Padang, using a case study approach by conducting in-depth interviews with 25 students who were active in using Instagram with a daily usage frequency of more than 12 to 24 hours. The results showed that the use of Instagram had an impact on the emergence of social and cultural changes for students in Padang. First, they do not hesitate to share excessively in self-disclosure in cyberspace. This culture certainly arises because of the presence of Instagram as one of the social media that can be accessed by anyone. Second, students are not able to provide boundaries between private space and public space, so Instagram currently also has an influence as a channel or medium in complementing relationships among themselves, and at the same time Instagram is part of the lifestyle chosen by students when communicating using sophisticated technology.

Many think that the primate hunting is done by the Mentawai people caused the primate extinction in Mentawai whereas forest exploitation on Siberut Island has been going on for a long time like HPH, poaching, and development. Indeed, the Mentawai people have Arat Sabulungan guidance on their environment which not only regulate natural environment but the social and cultural environment. Based on the research of results found that the people of Buttui and Tepu’ know their world is divided into two parts, namely purimanuaijat (porak, manua, baga, oinan and leleu); and sabulungan (Saikamanua, Si Bara Ka Baga, Saikoinan and Saikaleleu). The world purimanuaijat in fact both the living things and inanimate objects have a soul (simagere) and spirit (ketsat). So the Mentawai people should maintain the relationship. Because human life that always utilize nature, can trigger the relationship, so they do punen and puliaijat. Because the balance is not only about the world purimanuaijat, but also the world sabulungan. So the Mentawai people perform the hunting activity at the end of the ceremony, due to the hunt for a form of respect for the spirits of the ancestors, Saikaleleu and fellow creatures who are spirited and have spirits by making ute 'simagere. The ethno-ecological Mentawai people have a categorization of the environment that are uma, pumonean consisting of pumonean saina and also pumonean leleu or siburuk; and leleu. Leleu this is a place of hunting and place of life for 4 species of endemic primates in the Mentawai. One of them are bilou, joja, simakobu and also bokkoi. As for the pumonean saina and pumonean leleu, it is advantageous to these four primates at the time of food to the four species of primates will descend to the fruit field as well as the bokkoi who can go down to the ground to take surappik. Likewise some taboos that save some primates while for the ceremony is not always the ending ceremony of hunting, so the ceremony and hunting are the mechanism of the Mentawai people in balancing the natural, social and cultural environment with a balance for the Mentawai people about the relationship between the world of purimanuaijat and the world of sabulungan.

United Nations considers local knowledge as sustainable development. In fact, local knowledge of Orang Rimba has transformed because of pressure industrialization. This article describe current ethno-forestry of Orang Rimba. This research method uses an ethno-science and multidisciplinary landscape assessment. Data was collected by participatory observation, depth interviews, participatory social mapping and plant collections. Informants ware selected by purposive sampling through key informants. Data analysis was carried out using an ethno-forestry approach. The ethno-forestry of Orang Rimba is local knowledge that regulates relationship between lowland forest taxonomy and the whole of domain life the Orang Rimba. Rimba Bungaron is a forest that related both social organization and kinship (genah), customary (bebalai), and hunter-gather domain (merayau-nyulogh) which can be managed by ancestral lineage (setubo). Benuaron and Sialang are orchards and honey-producing trees with agro-forestry domain that are managed by matrilineal lineage (serombong). Bahumaon parah and oil palm are plantations domain that are managed by nuclear family (sebubung). The ethno-forestry of Orang Rimba has long been known as hunter-gather and swidden agliculture which need to be deemed, because previous management of lowland forest have shifted the lives of Orang Rimba to rubber cultivation and oil palm plantation in Twelve Hill National Park

This article analyzes a phenomenon found in rural communities in Subang district: the tradition of Gintingan. The Gintingan is a tradition of donating from one family to a family that will or is holding a celebration. Despite modern times, the tradition lives on due to the ownership of society's social capital. By employing a qualitative strategy coupled with a phenomenological technique, this study examines the effects of putting a traditional practice into action. Mutual trust between individuals is crucial in this case, as they exchange goods with each other repeatedly and contribute to helping Sohibul Hajat. Village communities boast a robust social network that serves various common and personal goals. Despite the tradition remaining constant, everything surrounding it transformed, such as invites, track records of attendees, and the design of dinnerware and barbecues, acquiring contemporary sensibilities. Evidently, society adapts to modernity while holding onto tradition.

The purpose of writing this article is to determine the Gawai culture in shaping the values of solidarity among the Dayak tribal communities in West Kalimantan. This article was prepared using the library research method, namely the method of collecting data by utilizing literature sources and materials. The result of the conclusion is that Gawai is a traditional Dayak ceremony which has become a tradition to this day. The Dayak gawai is one of the traditional ceremonies which is still actively carried out by the Dayak people. The Gawai Dayak traditional ceremony is one of the sources of local history in West Kalimantan. The implementation of the traditional Gawai ceremony aims to ask for safety and gratitude to God for the harvest which is usually done every one year. The traditional Gawai ceremony is held after the main harvest and ends with the traditional ritual of Rising Dango and reciting incantations and prayers or commonly known as Matik which aims to ask for blessings to God or Jubata. The implementation of the traditional gawai ceremony requires the involvement of all Dayak tribal communities to be able to work together in the preparation and implementation. Therefore, gadgets become the media needed to renew the spirit and sense of solidarity between Dayak tribal communities in West Kalimantan. The Gawai Traditional Ceremony is one of the very sacred religious rituals for the Dayak Tribe, therefore the Gawai Traditional ceremony only involves the Dayak Tribe. However, as the times progressed, the government tried to preserve the traditional Gawai ceremony, so that it became a routine tourism agenda in Pontianak City every year.

A high level of knowledge in society will increase the level of participation, especially the participation of health. This impact on cultural behavior of public health, especially maternal and child health issues have started well. Most of the mothers in the Pasar Lama Muara Air Haji village already have a system of knowledge that is high enough on the problem of health care of pregnant women and their children. This is also supported by the role of midwives and health volunteers help disseminate health through education programs and integrated health services

The Orang Rimba are a hunting-gathering group that lives depending on the availability of the forest. Forests not only function as livelihoods but also have cultural significance as a resource for their cultural traditions. However, in the last few decades, forest conversion in Jambi province has increased. The increased function of forests in Jambi from forests as plantation areas, mining areas and industrial plantation forest areas has made the lives of the Orang Rimba as a hunting-gathering group increasingly threatened. Food security is a condition in which all people, at any time, have access both physically, socially and economically to adequate, safe and nutritious food which can meet food needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life. The purpose of this paper through micro ethnography approach is to know and understand the phenomenon of food security from the perspective of the Orang Rimba as seen from its availability, adequacy, affordability and security.

Antropologi dan Persoalan Perubahan Iklim: Perspektif Kritis Ekologi Politik
Afiff, Suraya

Climate change could cause devastating impacts on Indonesia. The sea-level rise triggered by anthropogenic climate change, for example, will be affecting coastal infrastructure since Indonesia is ranked as the second country with the longest coastline in the world. Moreover, more than 100 million people (or about sixty percent of the total population in Indonesia) who live along Indonesia's coastline area would also be affected by sea-level rise. It is obviously clear the significance of social, cultural, political, and economic dimensions of climate change problems. Therefore, for anthropology, climate change should be one of the important research subjects that need our attention. And yet, anthropological study on climate change is still limited in Indonesia. My intention is to explore the theoretical approach that Indonesian anthropologists used to study climate change issues. Based on the number of existing studies, Indonesian scholars tend to use cultural ecology and cultural interpretation as the common theoretical approach in their study of the subject. Meanwhile, the critical anthropology perspective has been the least known perspective used by scholars in Indonesia. For this reason, my objective is to introduce political ecology as part of the critical anthropology approach as the theoretical option available in the study of climate change issues. Based on the literature study, I provide a brief introduction to the emergence of the political ecology approach in the study of human-environment interrelationship and how climate change problems were viewed from the political ecology perspective. The article also discusses possible research questions and issues that could be generated using the political ecology framework.

The culture was always close to the society and it became their habits in daily life. It would either consciously or unconsciously be derived from their next generations. That was why every community would always have their own culture. West Papua was an example of the Eastern part of Indonesia that was resided by various ethnics groups. In this concern, it would extremely lead to the acculturation of their culture in many aspects. This research aimed to describe the forms of acculturations happened in West Papua between local people and the immigrants and describe how it influenced society. This research was an ethnography research that would be described qualitatively. The study shows that the social diversity in West Papua became a gap for acculturation to their culture. The forms of acculturations were a substitution, syncretism, addition, origination, deculturation, and denial. The cultural acculturations made the society in West Papua could live side by side and they still carried out their respective cultures.

Communal narratives bind and become a link to give spirit to identity because society listens to local stories about Teong Negeri that have strong meanings, believing in each other. The four villages, in central Maluku, which are Wassu, Haya, Hatu, and Tehua, use the Teong Negeri symbol as an identity to maintain relations of kinship bond. The network that was built was challenged when the religious communal conflict happened, but the spirit towards the culture was always unheld. Teong Negeri became a symbol of central identity towards the traditional village that was able to regulate the socio-cultural system of every village in Maluku. not only for every community that has a bond of brotherhood or ethnicity. However, it becomes a universal symbol when, as a socio-cultural capital that is able to bridge the community from outside (buton migrants) based on cross-generation dialogue carried out by early generations of indigenous Maluku people with Buton migrants (migrants) in Maluku in order to have knowledge about the relationship harmonious.

This paper aims to examine the process of teritorial rights of village forest through regulation and government policy of Indonesia. Territorialization as governmentality occurs to two processes is becoming customary forest or village forest that is associates with the legal framework and the neoliberal scheme. This paper wants to show how the practices of territorialization at the local level through case studies in Kalawa, Kahayan Hilir Subdistrict, Pulang Pisau District, Central Kalimantan.

Offering the spirits in the ritual system of Northern Buddhism is a ritual performed daily for monks and an opportunity for Buddhists to participate in many different purposes. In it, there is an exchange between gain and loss while performing the ritual of offering the spirit. It could be said that based on the concepts and beliefs about ghosts and demons in Mong Son thi thuc - one of the important rites in the customs of Northern Buddhists - these rituals give us a deeper insight into the act of worshiping the souls. This research investigates the rational choice of Northern Buddhists in Ho Chi Minh City-based on Rational Choice Theory. Qualitative research methods such as fieldwork, in-depth interviews, qualitative analysis, and quantitative research by questionnaires have shown that there is rationality in the choice of worship the souls according to Mong Son thi thuc of Northern Buddhists among believers. In other words, there seems to be a desire to receive one or more benefits from this spirit offering. Rational Choice Theory has shown its applicability in the study of rituals, religions in particular, and in the research of the humanities and social sciences in general, which has received little attention in the past.

The Malay penghulu adat have traditional authority that can direct their people to maintain their own identity and existence. In fact, although the function of these Malay penghulu adat is only in the context of customs and culture, but in some cases these penghulu also influence the implementation of local democracy. For example, in the election process of the head of the region, although the function of the penghulu adat leader as a leader can direct the tribe and his people, but this function is rarely used because it is contrary to the principle of propriety in Malay custom. Nevertheless, the presence of this penghulu adat remains important to strengthen the legitimacy of the power of the political elite. This is reasonable because the legitimacy of the Malay customary is very important as a basis for building political support derived from indigenous communities. This article is derived from field research using descriptive qualitative methods. The informants of this research are adat penghulu, members of local elections commissions, bureaucrats, politicians and local academics. This article finds the dimensions of the Malay penghulu adat authority only used to establish Malay identity by strengthening Malay customs and culture. Moreover, the people of Riau are more complex than the social and cultural aspects. Their involvement gives support to the regional head only in order to preserve Malay culture to be accommodated in local government policy and not in the form of political activity. Therefore it is not surprising that every Riau governor is given the title of Datuk Seri Setia Amanah customs so that those who are given this title take part in preserving Riau Malay culture.

The research method used is a descriptive ethnographic approach. The research data is in the form of traditional expressions of the Pasemah Bengkulu ethnic community which were obtained through observation and or recording from a number of informants intentionally or not. The research procedure follows the steps proposed by Spradley (1997). The results of the study are seen from the meaning, communication situations, speakers of the other party, and ways of expressing anger. Expression of anger is a means to express feelings of annoyance, disappointment, and dislike. Expressions of anger can be a means of therapy for speakers and interlocutors for the emotions they experience and are one of the cultural images of the Pasemah Bengkulu ethnic community. In addition, the expression of anger is also a form of social control for society as well as a recorder of taboo vocabulary.

The research location is in Bungin Village, Pantai Bakti Village, where the issue is related to the conditions of coastal areas and brings up the program initiation. The research method was carried out with qualitative methods through in-depth interviews and participant observant. This thesis shows that in responding to the initiating improvements program in coastal areas, coastal communities are often faced with the social dynamics of the community itself. The response gap of the actors is influenced by social relations namely, 1) relations based on patron-client, 2) relations based on blood relations, and 3) relations based on emotional relationships, and two economic motives, namely 1) economic motives based on personal gain, and 2) economic motives which are based on basic needs. This thesis also enriches the study of the response of the fishing community through the approach of actor and network analysis. This approach is more relevant in looking at the response to the initiation of improving coastal areas through forms of actions, relationships, roles and motives of actors who are part of coastal communities.

Ruang Gender Dalam Pendekatan Ekologi Politik Feminis

Indonesia has various traditional foods, some of which are the result of acculturation with other countries’ foods. Sangga buwana is the Javanese-Dutch influenced cuisine, which became one of the favorite dishes of the sultans of Yogyakarta. Till date, the publication about sangga buwana is still limited. This paper aimed to introduce and spread the knowledge about sangga buwana as the result of food acculturation, focusing on its history, philosophy, how it is prepared, and its nutritional value. The study was carried out through interviews with the experts and literature review. Sangga buwana consists of several components, including choux pastry, ragout, lettuce, boiled egg, Javanese mustard, and pickled vegetables. Sangga buwana itself and every component to prepare it have the meaningful philosophy about God’s creations. It delivers important wishes and meanings to the newlywed couple in royal wedding ceremony. It was only served to the sultan, royal family of Yogyakarta, and their important guests. But nowadays, sangga buwana can be more easily found at restaurants, traditional markets or food festivals in Yogyakarta. The cultural preservation of sangga buwana has been conducted through cultural festivals, cooking workshops, and research development using local ingredients to prepare it which may support food diversification

TOGOG & SEMAR: DEHUMANIZATION, ANTI-HUMAN, POST-HUMAN

The core of Wayang stories (Mahabharata, Bharatayuda, Ramayana) is the reflection of human that is always continuously in crisis and emergency situations and conditions. Tragic. Wayang stories raise humanity problems so that the existences of human conception experience the perpetuity of dehumanization, existential instability and ambiguous. The killing of the essence of the human existence purpose on earth. It is an issue fundamentally of anti-human.
Shadow play perspective does not rest on human understanding or Knight (Pandawa, Kurawa, Rama, Giant), the heaven God (Bathara Guru), and/or Prabu Khresna, incarnation of Wisnhu God. Wayang stories evoke Togog and Semar angle. Liyan. Grassroots. The general public. Amorphous: No Man is not a knight instead of a brahmana is not god instead of giant.
Arises a question that is closely related to the presence of Togog and Semar. Why do shadow play stories present the figure of the them, while the authentic story of the Mahabharata and Ramayana India version does not exist at all? Are Togog and Semar truly actualization of post-human aesthetic and post-human anthropology ideas?
The substance of this writing ask us to discuss regarding the idea of Togog and Semar in shadow play into the realm of post-human discourse as a result of dehumanization signs in the frame of shadow play stories. The main focus of the discussion focused on the position of Togog and Semar as the figure as linuwih or great beyond human (knight) and god. Study restriction on the context of Purwa Java Gagrak Jogja and Solo wayang; similarly in East Java, Sunda and Bali, there are also those two figures.

Whether or not a policy is effective can be caused by implementing factors. The implementation implementer referred to as the street bureaucracy is the link between the bureaucracy and the community. In such relationships are influenced by the culture of each. This article discusses the implementation of stunting handling in West Pasaman District, West Sumatra Province. The objectives of this article are: describe the implementation of stunting handling policies by implementers and explain the acceptance of targets to the policy implementation program. This article is based on research using qualitative methods with an ethnographic approach. The research data were collected by observation techniques and in-depth interviews. The results showed that the implementation of stunting prevention in West Pasaman has been formally carried out well. The Regional Apparatus Organization involved and the implementation officer at the spearhead are working seriously with each of their duties. This has made the Regional Government of West Pasaman Regency ranked first in the Convergence Action to Accelerate Stunting Reduction 4 times in a row from 2019 to 2022. However, people in Nagari who are the locus of stunting feel that the program approach actually makes the target community (especially those with stunting children) feel depressed and intimidated, causing resistance to posyandu activities. So it can be said that the implementation of stunting prevention carried out is less effective. The current era of modernization has entered every line of human life, including the medical world. However, not all people can reach medical treatment even though the government has provided health service facilities. In line with this, traditional alternative medicine such as massage is still very popular among the public to cure ailments. The author tries to raise the reasons why people prefer traditional medicine over medical treatment. This study used qualitative ethnographic methods with data collection techniques, namely interviews and observations. The results of the research serve as documentation of cultural features in the health sector that are still developing in society. As an analytical technique, the authors use James C. Young's health anthropology perspective to explain the data found. The data analysis used is data collection, data reduction, and data presentation in the form of descriptions. This research shows that people prefer massage as a healing method for various main reasons, including a more affordable price; unpreparedness at the risk of medical treatment; disappointment with fruitless medical treatment; and belief in personalistic illness.

Communal land, the dominant form of land ownership in West Sumatra Province, is a legal place customarily to carry out economic activities with the principle of mutual benefit, and no transfer of communal land ownership is permitted. However, current state policies in economic activity tend to change the form of communal land ownership. The legality constructed by the state has made the transfer of ownership of communal land when used for economic activity, which disrupts the system of ownership and tenure of communal land. These conditions led to the emergence of community resilience in maintaining ownership and tenure of communal land. The method used in this research is a case study in two villages/ nagari, where data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews with several elements in the nagari. Community resilience is carried out by converting communal land ownership from nagari communal land to clan or subclan communal land and vice versa. The conversion of ownership type is a form of the resilience of the community against state policies that threaten communal land ownership and tenure while at the same time maintaining a balance of social and economic benefits from the use of communal land for economic activity.

This study was an ethnography research that would be described qualitatively, this is intended because the concern of the research is the way of life of the Lampung Saibatin community. The results showed that the Lampung Saibatin marriage in the 1970s underwent a change from a very strong Bujujogh with patrilineal to a Semanda marriage system. Lampung Saibatin community develops a new marriage system using Semanda which is an influence of the Minangkabau people, this is done by Lampung Saibatin people because they are reluctant to be called a failed family or ”mupus”. This study sees that the changes that occur due to two vital elements are that emerge from within the Saibatin community itself which includes privilege and economy. Meanwhile, external factors are new cultures that come from other people, get a better education and government policy.

This study tries to examine the management model of Kawasan Luar Pura Uluwatu Tourist attraction in Pecatu Village, Bali, one of the popular tourist attractions and is considered to have implications that lead to increasing economic welfare, cultural and environmental sustainability. The purpose of this research is to formulate a tourism attraction management model based on Tri Hita Karana as an alternative model for sustainable tourism development. This research was conducted using an ethnographic approach as a variant of the qualitative approach. Data was collected by using interview, observation, literature, and document inspection techniques. The findings of this study state that the Tri Hita Karana-based tourist attraction management model makes the three environmental aspects (spiritual, social, and physical) as objects as well as subjects of tourism development. In its position as objects, aspects of parhyangan, pawongan, and palemahan function as potential tourist attractions. On the other hand, as a subject, the values of Tri Hita Karana serve as a reference as well as control tourism development policies. This model carries a number of implications in the form of increasing economic welfare, cultural and environmental sustainability in a sustainable manner.

This paper describes the emphasis on rifaiyah batik which is a characteristic of rifaiyah people who are trying to be distracted by cultural activities through an activity entitled Celebrating Rifaiyah Batik which is seen in terms of interpretation of the Law on the Promotion of Culture. This research uses ethnographic methods and studies on Law Number 5 of 2017 concerning the Pemajuan Kebudayaan. The results showed that rifaiyah batik was made by rifaiyah people living in the Batang region. Rifaiyah batik is not just batik, but becomes a daily activity as well as a spritual practice of the rifaiyah. An activity entitled Celebrating Rifaiyah Batik was held as a form of concern, preservation and advocacy for rifaiyah batik to be known by the wider community by bringing the core message of rifaiyah batik. This is so if contextualized by Law Number 5 of 2017 concerning Pemajuan Kebudayaan, it becomes complete that the community as the owner and driver of culture. This research recommends that the interpretation of Law Number 5 of 2017 concerning the Promotion of Culture be interpreted transformatively. The government as a policymaker should support and create an atmosphere so that the community always preserves culture by continuing to explore the values of locality that exist in the context of promoting culture itself, regional development both in the human resources sector, economy and other sectors with cultural roots.

This article is the result of research conducted with the aim to determine the effect of traditional graduation traditions on increasing community motivation in continuing education to tertiary institutions. The Traditional Graduation Tradition is the awarding of a degree given by the Indigenous Institution of 50 Tumbi Lempur Indigenous Peoples to local sons and daughters who have completed a Bachelor, Master, Doctoral degree, or Professor. The awarding of this title is carried out royally every year on the second of Shawwal. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method where data is collected by observation, interview, and documentation study. The results showed that this tradition is still carried out by the community until now because this tradition has grown a very large motivation for every child and parent to be able to continue their education up to college. This motivation arises both from internal and external from the community. One of the external motivations arises because of the pride felt by each family when their children are given a title in front of the entire community of Lekuk 50 Tumbi Lempur. While internal motivation arises, one of which is due to the desire of children to achieve achievements and reach goals so that they can boast of the family.

This article aims to review how anthropology and art pay attention to art, especially to similar studies that have been carried out in Indonesia. Based on this, it is also to show the implicit meaning of some propositions and associations of ideas from an anthropological perspective that can be considered for the study of art. In this sense, it is not to solve the great questions of the anthropology of art or confine oneself to the virtues of anthropology for art but to broaden the horizons in which they must be considered.

This article deals with an agrarian dispute that has expanded from the ‘plantation belt’ to the swampy area on the East Coast of North Sumatra, which intertwined with a colonial legacy, environmental issue, Masyarakat Adat discourse, and recent political development. I conducted fieldwork in 2014 and periodic visits in 2015 to live among the community, observe, discuss, and document the events that occurred in the periods, and analyze them historically and also in the recent socio-political and economic context. Focussing on a community called Orang Paluh, who are mostly the descendants of the ex-plantation labors in Percut residing on the marshland named Paluh Merbau, this research looks at their attempts in dealing with land grabbing, the change of land use, and in negotiating with the restriction in utilizing mangrove trees in their surroundings. In such a social arena of the dispute, Orang Paluh played multiple strategies against land grabbing through mass mobilization, legal dispute, political support from the local political elites, and an alliance with Badan Perjuangan Rakyat Penunggu Indonesia (BPRPI), which holds a mandate as a regional branch of Aliansi Masyarakat Adat Nusantara (AMAN).

HIV epidemic in Indonesia has been last for three decades and the members of the community have participated in the prevention and intervention. Warga Peduli AIDS (WPA) is an action by a group of local residents in Bandung City who concerned about HIV and AIDS. This action has been one of examples of community participation in responding to the epidemic. The action includes participation in meetings held by NGOs and city government to discuss prevention at the community level, dissemination of information about epidemic preventions; and providing social support for people living with HIV and AIDS. This study aims at describing motives that drive the WPA activist (better known as WPA Kader) to carry out an action, and how they view the meaning of their action. This study was conducted in a qualitative approach using an ethnographic model. This study finds that WPA Kader derived their motive of action from religious and cultural values, and their action is a combination of altruism and self-interest to pursue their personal spiritual satisfaction. In line with this motive, they view their action as part of their religious and cultural expression; instead of merely a community-based action to respond to a timely health issue.

Since the days of kingship-kingdoms in Indonesia, Java, especially Surakarta, has been attached to something mystical. This has to do with forces beyond human power. This behavior exists because that power can have a positive impact. Examples can perpetuate power, bring authority, attract fortune, and attract. But interestingly, at that time mystical behavior was hidden while in this modern and democratic era mysticism was packaged in a different form. This research is qualitative research with an ethnographic approach that focuses on the peculiarities of mysticism in the city of Surakarta in 2019-2020. The data collected comes from the first observations made in Surakarta. Second, interviews with mystical actors. Third, documentation obtained from books, journals, and mass media explaining mysticism in Surakarta. The data validity uses the triangulate method, member check, prolonged time, peer debriefing. Data analysis using ethnographic analysis model. The result is that the people of Surakarta, especially government leaders and those with an interest in maintaining mysticism by making mystical traditions become cultural preservation, are legally regulated in policy, the implementation of traditional rituals is open so that people participate, and make irrational ones rational.
