The phenomenon of profanation of sacred traditions in the tourism industry is increasingly prevalent. Considering of that matter, some steps should be taken to avoid the tradition of desacralization. This research was done by a field research approach to identifying the values of the traditional ceremony of Tengger, especially Yadnya Kasada, Yadnya Karo, and Unan-unan. This research was located in Tosari and Ngadiwana Village, Tosari, Pasuruan, East Java. The data was collected by unstructured and open-ended interviews. The results showed that their beliefs and obedience in conducting the ancestral teachings must be balanced through a deep and comprehensive understanding of traditional values. On the other hand, the adaptation strategies must be carried out to stabilize themselves with modernization. These are done to preserve the existence of tradition without eliminating the essence of sacredness that has been attached to it. Therefore, one of the steps that can be taken is to separate the tradition from the commodification without resisting the flow of modernization.

The resilience of the indigenous people of Papua towards natural disasters has been questioned because of the large number of casualties post disasters deaths which should have been handled differently considering their knowledge and closeness to nature; thus, it should be easy for them to adapt in times of natural changes. This study is aimed at investigating the resilience of the indigenous people of Papua in the central mountains of Papua towards disasters based on secondary data. Study results showed that the resilience of indigenous people of the central mountains of Papua towards disasters is more influenced by social factors than ecology since, generally, the ecological system in the disaster area in the central mountains of Papua has not experienced much change. The social factors are, among others, the impact of modern civilization, which has not been well adapted by the indigenous people, and the lack of skills of local stakeholders in disaster mitigation. Disaster mitigation should be in the form of improvement of the social condition of indigenous people of the central mountains area of Papua to perfect their civilization towards a more prosperous life

There are seven groups of unofficial religions (penghayat kepercayaan) in Pekalongan District. The issuance of Constitutional Court (MK) decision No. 97/ PUU-XIV/2016 did not automatically fulfill their civil rights. There were various obstacles to implement the constitutional court decision. Therefore, this study specifically aimed to review their existence and the fulfillment of their civil rights after the Constitutional Court's decision. With a qualitative approach, and descriptive and literature methods, this study found that the social access of penghayat kepercayaan, such as the inclusion of their beliefs in the religion part of the Identity Card ("KTP"), the availability of penghayat kepercayaan teachers at school, or marriage registration, was yet to be fulfilled. The main obstacles were caused by the inadequate data collection of the penghayat kepercayaan population. Another obstacle was that, although the acceptance of the rest of the community towards the penghayat kepercayaan communities was quite good, the penghayat kepercayaan communities were still concern about them. Past discrimination seems to be main factor. For this reason, responsive works of the Pekalongan District Government are urgently needed to validate the data of penghayat kepercayaan communities and facilitate the social interactions across different communities to nurture a harmonious life in the district.

This research is a qualitative research procedure that produces descriptive data in the form of written or spoken words from observable people's behavior. The theory used is social capital which believes that religious values, norms and beliefs contained in social structures and structures are able to bond and integrate society to move together to solve problems. The approach is ethnography, which is a written description of people's way of life. There are three data techniques, namely; interviews, observation and document study, then analyzed by exclusion, namely matching all data that has been obtained. The results showed that religion is capable of being a social capital, as well as having values and the norms of tawhid, patience, sincerity, tawakkal and togetherness; These values and norms have been socialized since Islam entered Aceh and continue to be carried out by families and religious leaders through education. Thus, through religion as social capital, it can create resilience in the face of disasters in Acehnese society

This paper answers the question of how the construction of the meaning of the Peusijuek tradition is available in Aceh culture. Two important things that will support this thesis is how the mind and culture of Islam and Aceh combined into one formulated in a way. Therefore, how the processes, forms and philosophical meanings of the Peusijuek tradition available in Aceh culture will be discussed in this paper. The results of this study indicate that the Peusijuek tradition is one of the relics of Hindu Culture in Aceh. According to historical records, the implementation of the Peusijuek tradition before the sending of Islam still uses certain mantras and prayers. However, since the arrival and development of Islam in Aceh, the Peusijuek tradition has been changed by incorporating Islamic teachings in it, such as prayer, prayer, and other Islamic teachings. That is why the Peusijuek tradition in Aceh can still be up to now. In practice, the Peusijuek tradition is carried out by religious leaders and elders of Aceh, such as ulama, tengku, ustadz and ustadzah. This is done because the Peusijuek tradition is considered a sacred Acehnese procession. The practice of Peusijuek tradition in Aceh is carried out in religious and cultural activities, such as performing pilgrimage, marriage, circumcision, prayer, arena, buying new vehicles, and so forth. The purpose of this Peusijuek tradition is to appeal for the satisfaction, peace, happiness, and glory of the guests.

Most of Singkil community are used to living along the river side. The long-term experience on it has created some local wisdoms in efforts to mitigate and adapt to flood hazards. To bring back values of the local wisdom, we have conducted a research in Cingkam Village, Aceh Singkil District. The study applied a descriptive exploratory that based on field observations, interviews with local communities and in-depth interviews with community leaders and local government regarding knowledge, experience, implementation, and possibility of developing the local wisdoms. The results showed that the Singkil community practiced local wisdom on structural mitigation and adaptation to flood hazards in the form of floating buildings namely sapao metungkhang, lampung and bagan. These buildings were made of logs drifting along the river. The buildings are practically effective, so that daily household and communal activities can still be carried out both in normal conditions and during flooding. The buildings now tend to disappear due to several factors; such as shortages of raw materials, progress in land transportation development, relocation of community far from rivers and dimmed water transportation routes. Although the local wisdoms are starting to be abandoned, they still have potential to be preserved and developed for both flood risk reduction and tourism destinations.

The data is taken from the TikTok account @mingokwamkilama16, consists of 5 contents, and gets data of 50 discriminatory comments. The results show that the Papuan tribe often experiences acts of racism when using social media, such as creating content on the Tiktok application, and creating an @mingokwamkilama16 account, which is often discriminated against by other Tiktok users. Of the three indicators studied, the most dominant is discrimination on race, which reaches 70% of the data. This shows that racial discrimination is prevalent, this attitude can make account users feel hurt, and many are physically disturbed. Papuan people are also part of Indonesia, but Indonesian people are also racist toward them. There are still many Tiktok users who lack education about Indonesian races.

Furthermore, rites are a tool for them to re-dialogue past history to fulfill their needs. It is further used as guides of both religious people to maintain social solidarity. Symbolically, Muslims feel to be an inseparable part of the lives of Hindus since there is a santren in Bhur Bwah Swah temple. It is a sort of place where they perform prayers and celebrate saparan day every year. ASSOCIATING LAND WITH PEOPLE: LAND AND COLLECTIVE IDENTITY AMONG THE SUKU ASLI OF SUMATRA
Osawa, Takamasa
Researcher of Research Institute for Humanity and Nature, Kyoto, Japan
Array
This paper explores some of the ways in which the connection between people and space has changed among the Suku Asli (‘Indigenous People’) living in Sumatra. The eastern coasts of Sumatra, Indonesia, are low and marshy lands, which are divided by numerous brackish rivers, and covered by vast mangrove forests. This region was a largely unpopulated area where some orang asli (‘indigenous’) groups and a few Malay people lived before the colonial era. ‘Suku Asli’ are one of the orang asli groups who were known as ‘Orang Hutan’ (Forest People) in the past - they lived along the banks as well as estuaries of rivers. Although their space was always somewhat of a ‘niche’ and did not exhibit any clear boundaries in terms of individual or collective ownership, the Suku Asli were confronted with the necessity to establish the boundaries after the state independence. However, their way of ensuring their land was not a simple one to claim their antecedent right of the land. At first in the 1960s, they joined the government deforestation programmes of hinterland ‘for giving lands to our children and grandchildren’. More recently, through the involvements with the ‘indigenous movement’ and environmentalism, they have tried to claim the rights of economically-worthless coastal marshy lands as their ‘ancestral lands’. In this paper, I try to describe the historical changes in the relation between the Suku Asli and the space surrounding them by focusing on the cultural 'logic' that is used to explain and support their connection to it - a 'logic' that enables the Suku Asli to conceptualize their relationship to land as both an embodiment and a manifestation of their collective identity.

Indonesia, as the sixth largest tobacco-producing country in the world, has participated in the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) by issuing compromise regulations through Government Regulation (PP) No. 109 of 2012. This regulation regulates restrictions on tobacco production and distribution of products made from tobacco raw materials. Furthermore, PP No. 109 of 2012 determines the increases in tobacco excise rates and the determination of limits on nicotine levels also sparked unrest among tobacco farmers in the Temanggung area. This article attempts to explain the insistence of farmers, especially in the eastern slope of Mount Sumbing, Pagergunung Village, Bulu District, Temanggung, in maintaining tobacco cultivation even though they are faced with an anti-tobacco campaign from the FCTC. The continued cultivation of tobacco can be understood as a form of regimen of cultivated plants. This article is an anthropological study with a regimentation theoretical perspective and ethnographic approach as a research method which presents the research results. From this research, it is known that the cultivation regimen is controlled by mythology, tobacco trade tricks, and the pretext of tradition as a socio-cultural surplus.

The image of the city worse off. Poor transport, congestion, pollution, and flooding becomes a major obstacle. Peace, security, comfort, and the more limited development in Jakarta. This resulted in a decreased quality of life and environment of the city. Basically, the public space is one indicator in determining the Quality of Life in a town populated. However, the design of public spaces often do not refer to the design criteria especially involving people’s aspirations. Discourse of public space often only seen as a purely technical activities and graphics. With the decline in quality of life, resulting in the city often social conflicts, such as racism, rampant: buskers, street children, beggars, begging, vandalism, hooliganism, crime, demonstrations, and student brawls. With the method of qualitative research - Grounded Theory, I would emphasize the discovery of a new theory which is based on the results of empirical observation data, inductive, generative nature and the data as evidensi, to review the condition of the open space in Jakarta. With the results of exposure to the new theory conceptualization embodies the ideal of public space that should be realized, to bridge the expectations/desires of the population of Jakarta and is intended to provide input for the study of public spaces Jakarta in particular, as well as food for thought for local development in general

South Kalimantan Province is the province with the highest number of child marriage cases, according to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2017 and 2019. This has resulted in various negative impacts, one of which is the high maternal mortality rate, as well as the low human development index (HDI) in the province, which is placed at the 22nd position from 34 provinces in Indonesia. This paper aims to examine various strategic actors who can prevent and reduce the practice of child marriage in South Kalimantan Province in three levels of analysis: the macro, mezzo, and micro levels. This paper seeks the relationship between the three aspects of structure, culture, and social processes at the three macro, mezzo, and micro levels, as the concept of analysis used to prevent child marriage practices from a child protection perspective and SRHR issues. This study uses a qualitative approach through in-depth interview methods to key policy makers and is supported by focus group discussions (FGD) to participants in discussions from various backgrounds, both government agencies, and non-governmental organizations concerned with the issue of child and women's protection in South Kalimantan Province.

Joseph Campbell explains one of the four mythical functions is a pedagogic function that is how humans live life as human beings under any circumstances. Some forms of folklore with pedagogic educative function are as a tool or complement in education and enculturation values such as stories to educate children disciplined, obedient, diligent and intelligent. The enculturation process to ensure the individual achieves maturity and cultural maturity so as to support the social order. In addition to the family as the first institution for the enculturation values in children, the social environment system that becomes interaction area will also affect each other's attitude and parenting ways and the environment. From the preliminary research, it was concluded that the observed myths of education were no longer present in the daily lives of the five families of informants. On the 5 myths traced, only the Malin Kundang myth is still well known. The substance of the values contained in the myth is accepted but is considered to be no longer to be found in the realities of everyday life. In the changing context, the enculturation process of the Minangkabau has shifted along with the swift entry of new values through new communication media

This activity was carried out on P3A Padibu and P3A Banda Iduik Ulakan Tapkis Subdistrict and Nan Sabaris Sub-District, but the results obtained were very different. There is a sociological problem affecting the Denfarm production pattern of S.R.I. The data analysis used is qualitative hermeneutical analysis using moral economic theory James Scoot and Rational Farmer Samuel Popkin. The result of the research shows that the low production of Denfarm pattern of S.R.I P3A Padibu is caused by the chairman who commits lying and stealing in order to reach the personal interest. Besides, the chairman has no sense of responsibility towards Denfarm activity which gives impact to the appearance of the lazy nature of other participants. Perta also has another more productive land so that participants ignore the results obtained from the land of the Denfarm program. The high production of Denfarm P3A Banda Iduik occurs because it has a rational thought but nature is formed because it wants to depends the good name of P3A group, therefore, they are afraid to fail in this activity

Dissatisfaction that encompasses the disparity of land distribution and discriminatory economic policies that hinder decent living standards for every community. Tensions escalate into violent conflicts especially as economic conditions worsen and people face a subsistence crisis. Conflict is created when everyone feels that they have nothing to lose and are therefore willing to fight for resources, political power, and cultural respect.
It is fitting for all parties to ensure social integration in the proper arrangement of economic and political distribution and in the spirit of equality. On the issue of food security, the goal is to create conditions for everyone at any time to gain food to support survival.

Border issues have recently experienced ups and downs in academia and research after the election and reshuffle of new ministers in the Indonesian government. After Mrs. Susi Pudjiastuti, former Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, was reshuffled, attention to border areas, especially maritime boundaries, between countries experienced ups and downs again. The government seems to be less focused on border discourse, which raises various problems in it. However, if we look back, border studies, especially maritime borders, will be the main attraction in maintaining state sovereignty, and the culture and identity of a nation and state. This study attempts to describe and analyze the border sea area in the world of maritime, culture, religion, entity and identity of a country and nation. The historical method is used in this study with a socio-economic approach that intersects with the processes and axis of networks, culture, and identity. The network is interpreted as a process that intersects with society, as a subject and object, which becomes one axis in human activity. In the process, a communal culture and network is formed as a characteristic of a community group as a form of personal or communal and institutional expression. The results of this study indicate that a historical process has implications for the emergence of cultural groups and ethnic identities in society. The Sulawesi Sea acts as a connecting area between countries, nations, in the scope of history and culture, so this study is expected to contribute to the study of the border area of two countries and nations.

Based on the results, there are differences in customary communal tenure between the darek region whose control is held by penghulu andiko, while the rantau region whose control is given to rajo. Rajo is the head of the tribe who is in 4 the customary land in Alam Surambi Sungai Pagu. In the Alam Surambi Sungai Pagu community, the forest processing is divided into three, namely; 1) ulayat suku is an unprocessed highland forest or rimbo gadang; 2) ulayat kaum or harato pusako tinggi, which is a land of ancestor from ninik nan salapan and ninik 60 kurang like rice fields or sawah and will be passed on daughters; 3) ulayat saparuik, also known as Harato Pusako Randah, is a family property from parents or property owned by their father and mother during marriage in the form of fields or rimbo randah. After the issuance of 5 decrees of The Village Forest in Alam Surambi Sungai Pagu, some of rimbo gadang began to be used as a Village Forest, moreover the use of the forest began to take into account the nagari government. Hence, the boundaries of 4 customary land begin to blur. In addition, the existence of Nagari Forest does not only provide the legality for the people of Alam Surambi Sungai Pagu, but also provides the benefits for outside communities, LPHN and mining companies.

This article examines the reconstruction of stakeholder confidence in the collaborative governance process for the sustainability of child-friendly cities in new industrial communities. Research problems are due to the implications of the growth of new industrial societies, differences and conflicts of interest between stakeholders, child growth and development problems, high stunting, juvenile delinquency, street children, and parenting patterns that are not by needs. This study aims to analyze the reconstruction of stakeholder trust in creating awareness and shared commitment to collaborative governance processes to realize the sustainability of child-friendly cities. The research method is qualitative, research data is collected through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions (FGD). The results of the study show that collaborative governance processes are faced with different interest gaps that result in a lack of trust and commitment to realizing a child-friendly city. A joint forum among stakeholders in the child-friendliness campaign efforts has been organized but shows no signs of effectiveness. The lack of synergy between local governments and industry players is present, therefore efforts to rebuild trust in realizing the sustainability of a child-friendly environment need to be optimized through communication, openness, social responsibility, and supervision of local governments.

Death is a part of the reality that will come to everyone. It is not a silly reality and it is not the reality that ends one’s life, instead the reality carries oneself to the two-dimensional new life. First, dimension of eternal life that is personally lived by oneself and at the same time related to theology and the religion studies. Second, the dimension of social life among the one’s living family and at the same time related to the realm of customs and culture. By the ethnographic methods, this research is more focused on tracing the practices of death rites to uncover the power of death to revive the community. The results of the research show that the death rites are aimed at the organization for better community to live together. Through the death rites, the relatives are asked to be introspective, open, and ready to reconcile with anyone not only with those who are directly in conflict, but also with all people who are potential for conflict as anticipatory actions.

The increasing number of coffee shops identifies the dynamics of urban life in Purwokerto. However, how does the existence of these coffee shops influence the socio-cultural life of the society? The research aims to examine the socio-cultural functions of coffee shops in Purwokerto in accordance to the role of public sphere. The concept of public sphere by Jurgen Habermas is used the theoretical foundation of the analysis. Using descriptive qualitative method, the study analyses data taken from the observation and interview process. Due to the large number of coffee shops in Purwokerto, the researchers select six coffee shops with different characteristics. The research finds that coffee shops in Purwokerto tend to be a place to meet up after school or work and spend their leisure time, as the coffee shop offers a good atmosphere to be more focused and productive on their work. Thus, the function of public sphere is hardly found. Instead, coffee shop becomes a private place for individuals to engage with their own individuality and communities

This study analyzes about Surabaya Wotagei Community whose uniqueness is different compared to other communities in Indonesia. Surabaya Wotagei Community emerged not only due to the same preference of the members but also by its uniqueness that is rarely encountered. This study uses qualitative-descriptive method through fandom and youth subculture approaches that emerged in the community. This study shows that Surabaya Wotagei Community is part of the subcultures because they exist as a community that is anti-mainstream but also stays neutral, as in not trying to fight or oppose something. Surabaya Wotagei Community offers a form of fandom with its own unique characteristics, where its members have other ways to provide support for AKB48 or JKT48 without being obsessive and possessive. On the other hand, as a community, Surabaya Wotagei Community is indeed formed by the popular youth culture which makes this community fluid and is well-known by many circles.

This study aims to analyze the interaction between ethnic groups and changes in the family structure of the Minangkabau, Javanese, and local ethnic groups in Bengkulu City. This research uses a qualitative approach with an analytical descriptive method. The results of the study explain that: First, the interaction pattern carried out by each ethnic Javanese, Minang and local ethnic is an associative interaction, where the interaction that arises is the self-awareness of each ethnicity of the importance of the meaning of life interacting without having to contradict even though different ethnicity or ethnicity they come from. In fact, in the local people's life, even though they live side by side with multi-ethnic groups, there has never been friction or inter-ethnic conflict. Second, in the Minang ethnic there is a trend to change the kinship system from matrilineal to bilateral kinship system, as result there is also a shift in the role of the powerful and responsible from uncle to father who is in charge and responsible for the family. Thirdly, in Javanese, no fundamental change finding, but the change lies only in the calling of everyone in the family.

One of the current environmental problems is plastic waste. One of the efforts to manage plastic waste in the community is through waste bank activities. This paper tries to explain the participation of farmers in the Pancadaya waste bank community in the suburbs area of Padang City, from a Giddens perspective. The research was conducted qualitatively by observation and interviews with several informants who were obtained purposively. The results of the research show that from the external dimension, several things are constraining and enabling the practice of participation by farmers, such as the distance factor and the existence of incentives.Meanwhile, from the internal dimension of farmers as subjects, participation as a social practice is largely due to unconscious motivation and practical consciousness. Only a small number of them participate in plastic waste management in waste banks based on discursive consciousness. Collaboration between waste banks and farmers as one element of customers and other parties is needed so that their participation practices are more driven by discursive consciousness

The similarity of identity such as religion and ethnicity as a primordial aspect becomes a preference in choosing a leader not based on their capability. In the election of the Governor of North Sumatra in 2018, identity politics tended to strengthen in Muslim voters, especially in terms of religion, indigenous issues and natives. This practics of identity politics resulted in a victory for the couple Edy Rahmayadi-Musa Rajeckshah (Islam-Islam). The main question in this study is why identity politics is still relevant to be used by Muslim voters in the Election of Governor of North Sumatra in 2018. The study was conducted with a qualitative descriptive method, in which all data were collected through library studies and internet searching. This study concludes that Muslim voters see identity politics still relevant to use in choosing leaders because they consider Muslims have to be led by leaders who care about Islam. This understanding emerged from previous experiences in DKI Jakarta, namely the Al Maidah 51 incident by Ahok and discriminatory practices against Muslims when led by the non-Muslims and the Muslims who did not care about Islam in various regions in Indonesia

West Sumatra province is the homeland of Minangkabau ethnic group, which possess a strong adat and Islamic value principle; ”adat basandi syara’, syara’ basandi kitabullah” and also prioritizing women as the key person in clan (suku). Aside from its cultural and religious aspects, this province is also prone to disasters. These disasters are directly impacted on Minangkabau people’s livelihood, especially women. In Minangkabau society, women have a crucial role because they are the leader of Rumah Gadang (big house owned by community). This situation puts women as the problem – solver in any occasion, especially when it comes to disaster issues. The aim of this study is to understand the resilience of Minangkabau's women, which focused on their coping strategies at pre, during and post disaster, and how the local knowledge will be applied in this condition. This study used a qualitative methods; observation, in-depth interviews (with local leaders and Bundo Kanduang) and also used secondary data. The findings depict some strategies could be taken by women at disasters, including; mamagang sawah (organizing the paddy field activity) and also badoncek (an ancient tradition which similar with arisan). Those strategies showed a strong connection between women, traditional practice and resilience.

Riau Islands as one of the tourism destinations in Indonesia that has unique tourist uniqueness. The uniqueness and potential of tourism in the Riau Islands is developed as one of the tourism destinations based on culture and supported by the beauty of nature is very interesting. The emergence of maritime tourism as the most popular place impacts the tourism in the Riau Islands region. Many changes occur due to the development of tourism. However, the most attention is the high level of tourism accommodation development with a very limited amount of land. The limitation does not necessarily stop development and even leads to a higher level of functional alteration that threatens the existence of green open spaces that also impact to other areas as happened in Teluk Village Mangrove, Gunung Kijang District. Beside that, the lack of human resources, especially in Teluk Bakau Village, Gunung Kijang Sub-district, is still not able to compete in tourism sector either in local, national or international scale. If this is left is not impossible that tourism was originally expected to be able to improve the welfare of society it will threaten the welfare of the community itself. Intangible is seen there is a movement of people who are now tend to orient towards profit financially or profit oriented. Because, tourism industry is seen as a profitable activity and able to bring in great revenue.namun, reality in the field shows that the development of Tourism Village has not been side with the community of Teluk Bakau Village. As the development of coastal tourism is a tourism asset sold for tourist satisfaction. However, the development of tourist villages is not aligned with people's lives. The socio-economic life of the Bakau Bay community is unchanged while investors reap huge profits from this tourism activity. In fact, if there is no coastal tourism industry tourism in Teluk Bakau Village will not grow

The purpose of this paper is show that the commodification process that occurs in the Sijunjung Traditional Village to support the development of rural tourism. The process of commodification can be seen in the utilization of the Rumah Gadang as a place to stay (homestay) for visitors. Rumah Gadang for the Minangkabau people is not just a place to live but a cultural space and symbol. So that if it is made into a homestay it will create a dilemma, on the one hand, the Rumah Gadang needs to be maintained as a distinctive Minangkabau cultural monument and on the other hand, the tourism aspect can have an economic impact on the Sijunjung community. It is this dualism of Rumah Gadang as a cultural product and a tourism product that results in commodification to develop tourism in rural areas. The method used is a thorough observation of the Rumah Gadang and interviewing the residents and Ninik Mamak (traditional ruler) as members of the tribe that owns the Rumah gadang. A total of 15 Rumah Gadang have become homestays under the auspices of BCA bank CSR and are managed by the Nagari Sijunjung Traditional Village Management Agency (BP). Apart from that, Rumah Gadang still functions as a place and space for the social and cultural activities of the Sijunjung people. So that the values and norms that exist in the Rumah Gadang as a symbol of Minangkabau culture continue to run and through homestays, the Sijunjung community can get additional economic benefits from the tourism sector.

The decreased number of traditional earthenware craftsmen occurs due to three main factors: basic material, worker, and consumer. Some craftsmen instead prefer staying so that they should adapt to the existing condition. Nevertheless, in fact, some of them prefer stopping from being craftsmen now. Departing from this reality, the author tried to raise earthenware craftsmen’s adapting strategy to survive until today. The author employed a qualitative method. The phenomenological research was chosen with interview and observation being the techniques of collecting data. The result of research generally showed a variety of products produced aiming to document cultural heritage threatened to be extinct. Meanwhile, as the analysis technique, the author borrowed Julian Steward’s cultural-ecological perspective to explain the data found. Data analysis was conducted using an interactive technique of analysis. Considering the findings of the research, the craftsmen took a different surviving strategy today compared with that in the past. This change was effected by such constraints as basic material, consumer, and human resources. Julian Steward’s cultural-ecological concept seemed to be insufficient. Therefore, natural resources as the main basic material of industrial society should be understood more complexly to a more macro level.

This study aims to explain the factors behind the rise of early marriages in Bondowoso Regency which can be at risk of causing stunting; study the knowledge possessed by women in early marriage, reproductive health, and child-rearing; as well as conduct studies on stakeholder wars in alleviating early marriage as well as stunting. This study uses qualitative research methods with data collection techniques using in-depth interviews. The research location is in Pujer District, Bondowoso Regency. Determination of informants using purposive sampling consisted of several mothers who had stunted toddlers, village heads, clerics, to the head of the KUA Pujer District. The results of the study show that early marriage is still a risk factor that causes stunting in children. The dispensation of marriage, liking each other, arranged marriages, and avoiding adultery are the reasons why there are still early marriages here. Other factors that cause stunting apart from early marriage are knowledge, upbringing, socioeconomic conditions, and sanitation which factors that indicate stunting in Bondowoso Regency. The role of stakeholders in internalizing the community through an approach that is following their cultural characteristics plays a very important role in reducing the number of early marriages as well as stunting. However, if it is not accompanied by the efforts of the main actors to understand the impact of this early marriage, it can be indicated that stunting will still exist in Bondowoso Regency.

This article is a study of the process of the rise of Riau Malay Identity Politics when it was previously marginalized in the New Order era. The purpose of this article is to look at the stages in the formation of identity politics in restoring the glory of Malay culture in Riau province. This research is descriptive-explorative library research that explains and explores ideas about Riau Malay identity politics by answering questions in problems identified based on reading results and data interpretation related to the research theme. The results showed that after the reforms, the political elite of the Riau Province government tried to strengthen Malay identity with a variety of policies that were disseminated. Then, the negative views that were often directed towards ethnic Malay in the past, were rectified again by giving Islamic values to all the lives of the Malay people. Furthermore, the Local Government and the Riau Malay Customary Institution try to re-socialize the importance of the use of Malay as the origin of Indonesian.

The debate on the involvement of youth in music is not a new topic in the discourses on youth and life styles. The article discusses a research work on a group of Malay urban youth in Malaysia who were involved in underground rock music and the activities associated with it. The qualitative research based especially on a collection of primary data analyzes the elements of the underground rock music and the dynamics of its particular subculture. It touches both the ideological and behavioral aspects related to the youth’s involvement in underground rock music. The findings show that a group of Malay urban youth favors this type of music not only as a source of entertainment, but also underground rock music provides them with a channel to express their specific feelings, sentiments, and opinions associated with their specific life experiences, both as individuals and as a group within the society. Their involvement is very much related to factors such as the particular characteristic features of the music and the social elements or issues touched upon such as subjects on social consciousness, generational identity, individual’s creativity, social status, choice and freedom. For many youth, these elements have significant meanings for their daily living experiences and lifestyles and they provide them with a strategy needed to position themselves in a certain niche for survival as a group in the changing society like Malaysia.

The backgrounds of this research are (1) the reality of lung tuberculosis case in Indonesia has never been overcome since colonial governance era until now, and (2) biomedical experts often disregard the results of medical anthropology research by the social and culture approach on lung tuberculosis. Thus, I try to get out of medical anthropological research themes (medical ecology, political economic, and ritual) as usual, and offer “power” is a new theme in medical anthropological research on lung tuberculosis. The research findings are; (1) Cinangka Serang Banten societi’s knowledge on lung tuberculosis is constructed by staff of public health center (puskesmas), personalistic and naturalistic healers, (2) the social process as power implementation can stimulate, push, or even facilitate the biological process of lung tuberculosis, (3) the used of power issue in medical anthropology perspective for understanding disease is significant as one of medical anthropology theme on lung tuberculosis. These research findings effects are; (1) stimulates the dynamics of theory and method in medical anthropology; (1) reconstruct the way of thought in study of disease; (3) gives conceptual contribution in tackling and prevention of lung tuberculosis disease.

Working is one of the hopes as well as an achievement for the transitional period of youth. The social, cultural, and economic contexts that are developing rapidly due to globalization and advances in science and technology have made the sphere of work also change. As a result, the outsourcing work system has become the right choice for young people to develop their careers. Using qualitative research methods with a biographical model, several young informants were selected to tell narratives related to their dynamic careers in several industries with an outsourcing system. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and observations on the activities carried out by these young workers—besides, some secondary data related to the world of work as the primary data support. From the results obtained, youth who work in the industrial sector with an outsourcing mechanism have quite a risk of being vulnerable in the future even though the transition period they are experiencing looks relatively smooth (after taking education directly to work). Their joy in their daily lives as young people seems to be able to encourage them to keep their enthusiasm for work even though the risks that exist in the future are uncertain and winding.

Senjang is a Malay musical art found in the provinces of South Sumatra and Jambi. In South Sumatra, the existence of senjang is well maintained. This condition is achieved by combining senjang with modern musical instruments. Whereas in Jambi, senjang has been in decline since the 1990s. The artists have made various conservation efforts to no avail, and senjang in Jambi remains under threat of extinction to this day. Through a qualitative methods this study found that the decline of senjang in Jambi was caused by changes in people's livelihoods that changed the pattern of work organization in agriculture; changes in interest in music; and changes in social customs. The artists have made conservation efforts for the last twenty years, but to no avail due to obstacles arising from differences in interests with the local government. On the one hand, the artists want to add elements of dance, change musical instruments and songs to keep up with changes in people's musical interests, but the local government wants the use of musical instruments and traditional songs to be maintained in order to build regional cultural identity.

Indonesia is predicted to enter the era of bonus demography which is an interesting issue now. This is related to the increasing productive and non-productive population. This phenomenon can benefit the population, both productive and non-productive residents who get less attention, especially economic dependence on nonproductive groups such as the elderly. Elderly are often said to be a burden on society, especially for women who are often associated with domestic work. This study raises the economic independence of elderly women. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach on elderly women in Demuk village, Pucanglaban sub-district, Tulungagung district. Data collection uses participatory observation techniques and in-depth interviews. The results of the study show that elderly women can meet the economic needs of their own family or household. They work in the domestic and public domains such as farmers, laborers, traders, and breeders. Thus elderly women are not burdens, but they become economic support for the family or household.

The pattern of seeking healing and the use of family medicinal plants today has become an inseparable part of people's lives. In social life, illness becomes a discourse on the interaction of human life with nature. The disease suffered by the community is not only a challenge in itself, but they have the knowledge of healing, so that the illness can be handled independently or through the role of assistants in traditional ways. This study seeks to document the various knowledges of the community in the use of plants that can cure disease and also to map the pattern of seeking healing that is believed by the people of Aceh. Through an ethnographic qualitative approach, this research uses interviews and direct observation in two areas in Aceh. The results of the study show that the Acehnese living in the two areas have their own knowledge to obtain a cure for their illness. The knowledge was collected based on the response to illness through the role of traditional healers and the transmission pattern of treatment knowledge from generation to generation to medicinal plants, so that in obtaining healing, they were able to survive with the conditions they experienced until they obtained complete healing.

Socio-cultural changes in the world of social media always occur because of the support of sophisticated technology that occurs to this day. One of them is the use of Instagram for millennials, including in Padang. This research is to find out how social change is and the impact that occurs on students in Padang in using Instagram. This research was conducted in Padang, using a case study approach by conducting in-depth interviews with 25 students who were active in using Instagram with a daily usage frequency of more than 12 to 24 hours. The results showed that the use of Instagram had an impact on the emergence of social and cultural changes for students in Padang. First, they do not hesitate to share excessively in self-disclosure in cyberspace. This culture certainly arises because of the presence of Instagram as one of the social media that can be accessed by anyone. Second, students are not able to provide boundaries between private space and public space, so Instagram currently also has an influence as a channel or medium in complementing relationships among themselves, and at the same time Instagram is part of the lifestyle chosen by students when communicating using sophisticated technology.
